Sunday May 11, 2008 (a little delayed) THE HIDDEN SIDE OF SOCIAL MISERY If you travel through N. America today, you are going to see nice buildings, perfectly painted; wonderful green lawns; superb vehicles; and very, very many "products" having bright, smart, and also tempting labels. That is the true face of misery today. All that shining perfection is used to hide our artificial, sterile reality: WORK AND PAY. That is all. People in N. America are not people anymore; they are "consumers", "employees", and "tax payers". Many have no idea what being a human person means: they know no history, no philosophy, no (human, decent) moral, no biology, no hygiene, nothing. Of course, they don't care a bit about "all those", because they have everything they want: a JOB, a HOUSE, SEX, DRUGS, a RELIGION. Any misery is for "sale" in N. America, including people and Gods. This N. American "social selling" frenzy is pushing our entire actual Civilization towards social destruction. Long gone are the days of natural social beauty described by Mark Twain, Jack London, and Margaret Munnerlyn Mitchell. There is no more adventure, because we have carefully planned "scenarios"; there is no more romance, but we do have money, drugs, and VIAGRA; there is no more social moral, since we have TVs and PCs full of stupidity, pornography, and violence. We have all those new, splendid, artificial, social products, all nicely labeled and perfect, and "the people" are buying them as if they are going to end tomorrow. Therefore, we should expect to see "the people" in N. America happier than anywhere else. Well, they are not. Regardless of how much money they have, despite of the wildest variety of drugs, and in spite of all those polished, painted, wrapped whatevers, "the people" in N. America are desperate, very close to total social depression. The "buy-sell" N. American social formula does not work--it will never do. What people need are exactly those things that are not for sale: innocence, natural beauty, honesty, trust, empathy ... The problem is, because they are not for sale, "those things" are so difficult to find! ***
