Sunday, March 30, 2008 INTELLECTUAL BLACKOUT They say, God said, "Fiat lux" ("Let there be light"). Now, the average people say, "Let's turn the lights off, as a sign of protest against polluting our environment." They did just that this week, and we are certain they are going to do it many times again in the future. However, the question is, "How many power-offs are necessary to actually change (some) things?" We estimate, about one billion. The average is not able to understand anything properly. For example, they are talking about "polluting the environment", though they refer in fact to the abstract social notion of "profit". They imagine that by turning the power off they save some huge amount of pollutants--so what? The roots of the problems, dear people, are in our society, not in the environment. The nature has a fantastic power of regeneration. When there is going to be no human left on our planet, nature will still thrive. Sure, the polar bears may disappear, but rest assured that other polar animals (or plants) are going to appear in the future. Therefore, the environment is, and it is going to be, just fine, regardless; what is not fine is our Human society. You do not fight with the oil industry people; you fight against few abstract social terms: profits, benefits, revenue. The real pollution is not caused by oil; it is the democratic mechanism of selection. Note that we do have technological solutions to replace the entire oil industry for about 30 years. Nothing has changed, and rest assured that nothing will change in the future. Even when we will replace the entire oil industry with less polluting alternatives, the general environmental pollution will continue to increase--pollution is a social by-product caused by greed, corruption, and imposture. There are many forms of social pollution, and some of them are far more dangerous than the oil industry is, though the average people do not see them, and they cannot understand them. The good news is, fairly soon our Civilization is going to suffer a radical change. We complain today that there are too many people on our planet; in 100 years from now we are going to have way too few individuals able to work. We develop these days the monstrous mega-cities; in 50 years from now people will rush to get little agricultural land in tiny villages, in remote locations. Immigrants are flocking to USA and EU this days; tomorrow, the USA citizens will fight to get a resident visa in Mexico, Cuba, Rwanda, Argentina, Thailand, or in Siberia (Russia). Frightening, aye? Nah, it is going to be way better socially--you will see. ***
